day 22
Bright and early on a Sunday morning, after a few “technical difficulties”, we were able to capture this image…. meet Rochelle, Genevieve, Ezra and James.

day 21
Guess what we are doing today…. C’mon, take a wild guess….
Yep, driving.

Day 20 - a little time to play. You just haven’t lived until you have driven down the highway in a Smart car going 70+mph….
with the top down….
with Jeff Newcum….
while having your picture taken…

We had one goal in mind today - to see the “El Jaleo” painting by John Singer Sargent at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Though our welcome was less than acceptable due to an over zealous museum staff, we still succeeded in meeting that amazing painting face to face.

Boys being boys…

Jeff promptly lifted my spirits with an amazing zip-da-dee-do-da tour around the city, I would have shown you more, but John handles the video editing…

Day 19
As our Boston workshop unfolded, we were delighted that the rain arrived just in time for our afternoon shoot of the beautiful Mrs. Newcum dressed as our version of Little Red Riding Hood. The endless forest that swallows the Newcum property tied in perfectly for this concept. Thank you to Florence and Jeff Newcum for being such amazing hosts - we had a great time…. making it very difficult to leave.

and the happily engaged Kate and Mike allowed us to capture a few moments…

looks like the trip is taking it’s toll on me….
hehehe that’s my backside prominently featured as I tried to photograph jmc on that zipline swing contraption. classic.

The fun loving Wiebners: Rita, Zane, Hadyn and Joel playing in the water - what a way to bid farewell to the quaint little city of Lancaster, PA…

Then a little stop just outside of town to meet with the very sweet Lori, Daniella, Noelle, Avonlea and Neville
Another travel day - destination: Boston, MA
We were ecstatic when our pal, Jason Domingues wanted to hitch a ride from PA to MA AND offered to drive! Uh, Ya! 18 days on the road with just the two of us and our dogs - we are definitely ready for a little breaky-break. Not to mention, I would rather ice skate in Central Park naked then drive this 40 foot RV on the New Jersey Turnpike and what seemed to be endless toll booths…

That’s awesome
Love, love love it. Kingston says it’s bangin
We love you both and miss you tons and tons! Oh, and the photo ain’t too shabby either. ![]()
Yeah, I can’t stop looking at it. We haven’t ever been photographed as a family, and this is the perfect first time. Thanks so much for doing this, and I hope that we get to return the favor some day. Our PIF is this weekend.

Day 16-17, Lancaster, PA.
Using a direct emulation of an Avedon series from 1962 “paparazzi” as part of a continuing study, my little spin on this required a lot of help from the infamous Josh (aka “dontcallmesparkleboy”) and Michelle as well as our attendee’s and hosts as seen in the images…

I also played around with some lighting to capture (the ever-so-patient) Kim in a “hollywood-esque” style shot.

Tracy & Jack were so kind to model for our engagement session on Day 1 of Lancaster.

And Day 2 featured the courageous Rebecca and Brock

and Paying it Forward… Braden, Leslie, Tony and Kobi:

As well as the extremely down to earth Mark, Kyle, Brenda & Cooper:

Thank you oh-so-much to the Wiebners for not only being superlative hosts but also for transporting our asses all over Lancaster.
[...] is his post from the day. Go check it out and see if you can spot me in a few [...]
Thanks for the shirt and note - you friggin’ rock!!

Day 14
Another travel day… departing Atlanta, we had the pleasure of stopping to meet this beautiful family on the highway - (above) meet Stephanie, Daryl and Gabby Rei. And thank you for the RV goodies - it kept us busy on our long haul up North. Our destination was Dixie Caverns in Salem, VA for the night… we arrived just in time for me to jump in on the final tour

John and Dalissa,

Traveling through Virginia, we met Allegra, Marisol, Joe and Lucy (above)We made it to Middleton, PA to shoot at this charming “gothic revival style” barn from the 1800’s…. Just to warn you, it’s not easy to find!

And the darling Carisa, Olive and Brian:

Side note - Carisa, Brian and Olive put together a yummy treat for us while we travel - Carisa, you make a mean baker… any chance you ship your goodies to Nevada?? ***updated!
Um, yeah, we friggin’ love our photo!!! We had so much fun meeting you both and meeting the other family as well. That’s totally our dog Olive too, she hates to share the spotlight with anyone and you truly captured her as I know she is staring at my lap for biscuits. I love all of the photos, funny that it was a big dog fest!

In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
The job’s a game
And every task you undertake
Becomes a piece of cake
A lark! A spree! It’s very clear to see that…
A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way

Oh, wow! You got us ALL looking at the camera! That is impressive in and of itself.
I love the family photo and cannot thank you guys enough for doing this. It’s fun seeing all the other family photos, too.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!!
Altf, I have admired your work for sometime now and check your blog daily… You are one of my favorite photographers.. You seem to have some kind of SUPER HERO POWERS when it come to lighting techniques and I was hoping you would be so kind as to share them with me… You see I am in love with the idea of the ROADSIDE PROJECT. What a neat way to give back to the photogs out there who never get a BAD ASS picture of them and their family… ANYWAYS I need one of my TWO boys.. I have to have it.. and since I wont be seeing you anytime soon I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to capture that great light… I have the off camera lighting, just dont know what to do with it.. I love the sunset pics and how their faces are lit up… I am dying to do my first canvas and want it to be of my boys.. If you have the time to give me some pointers (eg. camera settings and stuff) that would be great. If your to busy That’s ok.. Someday I’ll meet you and ask you myself… Thanks so much Nicole
