Brad and Amy

I often struggle with the question of whether it’s easier or more difficult to photograph someone that you know and love. Over the years, we have been so lucky enough to photograph friends, family and other photographers but I have yet to be able to definitely answer this question. For me, at least, it’s a double edged sword – there’s an emotional attachment that not only allows me to view the person differently than someone that I don’t know as well but also sometimes I secretly wish that I can just enjoy that moment as the rest of the guests do so I am constantly keeping myself in check. The benefits of being in this situation is that you know this person… you have seen them in many different scenarios and situations, emotions and moods… so you can easily read that body motion, know when they are at their best or about to laugh or smile. I suppose it offers benefits and down falls.. Amy has been styling my hair for the last 11 or 12 years now and has consistently offered her technique, professionalism, wisdom, and friendship on at least a monthly basis (give or take). The least I could do is finally offer the same – luckily I was able to twist JMC’s arm into coming along just in case I did get wrapped up in a moment or two!
